Sonora, CA — The city has been hit by a number of automobile accidents lately … all caused by senior citizens.
Police Department Traffic Officer Jaemie Boeding comments, "We are having a rash lately of elderly people who are causing collisions. These are people who probably at this point in their lives should not be driving any longer."
Boeding adds, "We understand it’s a very difficult subject. We understand it’s a sensitive subject. It’s hard for you to tell your relative or your loved one that they should not be driving anymore. It’s hard to take that independence away from them."
Boeding states that if you have concerns about a relative who you feel should no longer be driving, you should contact her at the Police Department for consultation. That phone number is (209) 532-8141.
In addition Boeding says many accidents are caused by motorists who become impatient with seniors who may be slow to react to a particular driving situation. She cautions all motorists to be patient and always drive defensively.
