Five School Board Members To Face Recall Vote

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The five members of the Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District Board will face a recall vote May 5.

County Clerk and Auditor-Controller Debi Russell stated that each of the five Board members needed 910 signatures of valid registered voters to quality for the May 5 vote.

Charles Day received 1,211 signatures, Llllian Cravens (1,201), Mary Kelly (1,195), Byron Berger (1,192) and Dave Gookin (1,190). Only 21 votes separated Day and Gookin.

Russell added that if any member/members decided to resign prior to the May 5 date, the vote will go on as scheduled, regardless.

The recall is due to the Board´s failure to inform the public as to why Tioga High School math teacher Ryan Dutton was placed on administrative leave without pay.

Russell will present the signature certification to the Board Wednesday, January 14 at a six o´clock meeting at Tenaya Elementary School.
