The next storm system will bring snow to the Sierra Nevada, beginning early New Years Day and continuing periodically through Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Two to four inches of snow accumulation is likely above 5000 feet by Saturday afternoon. Up to half a foot of snow is possible above 7000 feet.
Another two to four inches of snow is likely near the crest of the Sierra by Sunday night.
