Winter Storm Watch Begins Tuesday Afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Nevada from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon.

Snow levels will lower to 2500 feet.


Several inches of snow accumulation is expected at 3000 feet. Half a foot to one foot of snow is likely from 4000 through 5000 feet. One to three feet of snow is probable from 5000 through 7000 feet.


Winds of forty to sixty mph are likely over the crest of the Sierra Nevada with some gusts reaching up to eighty mph.


One to two inches of rain should be expected below the snow line.


Small hail and sleet will also be possible on Wednesday.


Clear skies and cold temperatures are likely Wednesday night. Wind chill readings in the Motherlode will be in the teens and near zero in the Sierra Nevada.


Roadways are expected to be icy.
