The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra Nevada from 4pm Friday through 10pm Sunday. Additionally, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Motherlode from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.
Winds of twenty-five to fifty mph are likely over the higher ridges. Gusts from sixty to eighty-five mph are possible over the crest. Mountain wind chills will be below zero.
Snow levels will drop to 1500 to 2000 feet on Sunday.
Three to six inches of snow is expected above 2000 feet. Half a foot to a foot of accumulation is possible at 3000 feet. One to two feet of snow is likely above 4000 feet. Two to four feet of snow could fall above 6000 to 7000 feet by Sunday evening.
Snow showers may linger into Monday.
As of Friday morning Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass, Highway 88 Carson Pass and Highway 120 Tioga Pass were all open with no restrictions. Highway 108 Sonora Pass remains closed at Kennedy Meadows.
