Police Find Suspicious Item

Sonora, CA– The Sonora Police Department responded to a call of a suspected bomb threat today in Sonora.

According to Police Chief Mark Stinson, at 9:38 am, a resident on the 400 block of Morning Star Drive reportedly found a jar wrapped in tape in front of their yard. A fuse was also attached to the jar along with the words “bomb” written on it.


Officers responded to the area and noticed that the fuse had been burned. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was then called for assistance in examining and removing the jar.The bomb squad concluded that the jar was not an explosive device and most likely a prank.


Anyone having information about this incident is asked to call the Sonora Police Department at 532-8141.
