Tuolumne County Tire Recycling Event

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– It’s very possible that Tuolumne County residents may someday drive on roads they helped create through a tire-recycling event this month.

Starting tomorrow, residents can turn in their old tires free of charge at the Cal Sierra Transfer Station in Sonora by appointment only, and at the Groveland Transfer station Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

“During the last event held in April of 2009, more than 2,500 tires were collected and this year we are hoping to do the same or even exceed that amount,” said Belinda Barlow, Solid Waste Specialist. “With every tire brought in, the community is doing their part for the environment, and not only keeping our county safe from the dangers and health hazards of stockpiled tires, but putting those tires to better use.”

Barlow added that each person can bring up to 9 tires to be recycled through October 31st. Tires from businesses will not be accepted.

To make an appointment at the Cal Sierra Transfer Station in Sonora, call (209) 533-7997.
