Veteran Memorial Dedication Well Attended

Sponsored by:

Over the past year, the Vietnam Veterans of America Post 391 raised money for the Memorial that is outside of the new VA Medical Clinic on Mono Way near the Junction Shopping Center.

Frank Smart, spokesperson and member of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 391, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Last Saturday evening, September 11th, three to four hundred people attended the dedication of the Memorial.

“This Memorial basically honors all branches of the service,” says Smart. “It won’t honor any particular war, or any particular generation, just all Veterans.”

The Memorial consists of a flagpole surrounded by six granite slabs, one for each of the services. The slabs feature text written by a local member. Leading up to the Memorial is a walkway of bricks and pavers engraved with the names of Veterans.

Private residents donated money for the bricks (4×8 inches) and pavers (8×8 inches). The donors were able decide which Veteran or Veterans names are featured on their brick.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:46, 7:46 and 8:46am.
