Meals And Wheels Event Set For Saturday

Sponsored by:

The 4th Annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser is set for Saturday night, August 28th at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown.

Ron Patell, co-chair for Meals on Wheels, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”. Mike Ruggles, CEO of Sierra Senior Providers which is responsible for the Meals on Wheels program, joined Patell.

Last year over $60,000 was raised for Tuolumne County’s Meals on Wheels fundraiser.

Ruggles says that it costs approximately $300,000 each year to keep the program running, so this single fundraiser is a major part of its annual budget to supply meals to seniors.

Saturday night will include a “Aloha Express” train ride and a Luau inspired dinner by Seven Sisters restaurant.

Music will be provided by Dave Rainwater & Lori Brandon. Entertainment will also include the Anapa Nui Hawaiin Dancers and the Ukulele Orchestra.

Many raffle and auction prizes will be made available including a trip for two to Hawaii.

Tickets are available now for $75. Special Reserved Tables of 8 at a discounted price of $525. Call (209) 533-2622 for ticket information or log onto www.sierraseniorproviders.org

Proceeds of this fundraiser will go to local Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels is a program for Seniors 60+ years of age, who are homebound and/or cannot cook for themselves. Sierra Senior Providers deliver hot, nutritionally balanced meals to the home. A person needing a home delivered meal service can have meals for five days and two frozen meals for the weekend.

Meals are prepared and packaged by the Meals on Wheels staff at the Tuolumne County Senior Center. Hot, home delivered meal service is offered five days a week to the Sonora, Tuolumne, Jamestown, Columbia and Phoenix Lake areas. In addition, two frozen meals can be delivered on Fridays for weekend consumption. Seniors living in other areas of Tuolumne County are provided seven frozen meals, according to his/her needs, delivered once a week.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
