Will Copperopolis Library Close The Doors?

Sponsored by:

Due to Calaveras County budget cuts, the Copperoplis Library may be forced to close its doors.

Valerie Dean, the Copperopolis Library Branch Attendant, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Library funding comes out of the Calaveras County general fund. This means that the county pays the monthly rent and all operating expenses of the library.

The library has been serving Copperopolis for the past twelve years

According to Dean, the community has been quick to respond since hearing that the library may be forced to close. There will soon be a couple of fundraisers inclucing a “Family Fun Day” on Saturday September 4th and a spaghetti feed in October.

Dean said it would be devastating to the community if the library should have to close. It is in constant use with people checking out books, DVDs, using the internet and finding it to be a safe gathering, social place for the young and old alike.

The Copperopolis library is located 90 Copper Cove Drive in Suite D. The hours of operation are limited from Tuesday through Thursday 11am – 5 pm  and on Fridays from 10am – 1pm. More information can be found by calling (209) 785-0920.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
