Busy Tourist Weekend
Sonora, CA – More people plan to travel this Fourth of July weekend than 2009.
AAA reports that 4.1 million Californians are projected to travel 50 miles or more from their homes, which would be a 19.3 percent increase from last year.
Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Nanci Sikes says the Mother Lode will be a popular destination this weekend.
"We’re already inundated with visitors at both of our Visitor Centers and it’s just going to pick up as we get closer to the weekend," says Sikes. "Things are looking terrific right now."
Sikes notes that tourism in Tuolumne County was up in June of this year compared to last year, and expects the upcoming Fourth of July weekend to be among the busiest of recent years.
