Sonora, CA — Sonora Pass will be closed Thursday.
A big rig truck went down an embankment early Tuesday morning, and crews need to remove the vehicle and its contents.
CHP Officer Mike Buller says no one was injured from the accident. The truck was westbound near Kennedy Meadows and its brakes began to overheat. The driver had to scrape the side of the mountain to bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver and his only passenger exited the truck seconds before the parking brake gave way and the truck went down the embankment.
The truck was carrying approximately 44,000 lbs. of sheet metal. The cab of the truck was demolished and the sheet metal is spread out near the scene of the collision.
Sonora Pass will be closed from 7am until 5pm.
