Russell Passes Garaventa

Sonora, CA — Hank Russell has moved ahead of Jim Garaventa in the race for the second Sonora City Council seat.

The Elections Office has processed all of the absentee ballots, but there are still around 30 provisional ballots to process today for District One. There’s also the possibility that one of the candidates will request a recount.

“The race is still way to close to call,” says County Clerk and Auditor Debi Russell.

Matt Hawkins leads with 520 votes, Russell has 412, Garaventa has 405 and Gary Anderson has 402.

The top two vote getters will fill two open seats.

After absentee ballots were counted for the District Three Tuolumne County Supervisor race, Evan Royce expanded his lead and now has 52.4 percent.
