Competitive Supervisor Races

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Tuolumne County will have two new Supervisors.

Randy Hanvelt defeated incumbent Paolo Maffei by a count of 64 percent to 35 percent to win the District Two seat.

In the District Three race, Evan Royce received 51 percent of the vote, which is more than the needed 50 percent to win the race outright. There are still absentee and provisional ballots to be counted, and if Royce’s final percentage falls below 50 percent, he would be forced to have a runoff in November against second place finisher Dave Bonnot, who received 26 percent. Candidate Bob Fulcher finished third with 25 percent.

In Calaveras County no candidates finished above 50 percent in the District Five Supervisor race, so the top two, Darren Spellman (42 percent) and Russ Thomas (35 percent) will face off in the November election.

In the District Three race, Merita Callaway finished with 49.8 percent and Bill McManus 44 percent. The two will face each other in November, unless Callaway inches up over 50 percent when all the absentee and provisional ballots are counted.
