Sonora Mayor Ron Stearn Winds Up Fourth Term

Sponsored by:

The fourth term for Ron Stearn as Mayor of Sonora comes to an end at the end of this month.

Stearn was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Although Stearn will step down as Mayor, he will continue with his 46th year on the Sonora City Council.

Stearn was first elected in 1964.

“The size of Sonora was 1.4 square miles, today it´s three square miles. The police department budget back in 1964 was $59,900, today it´s 1.8 million,” said Stearn.

When asked how he´s held up over the years, Stearn said “Quite a bit of patience, and an understanding wife for a long time.”

Since 1851, no other person has served as Mayor of Sonora for four terms. Stearn believes that the quickest he could be reinstated as Mayor would be in other six years, although he clarified that he’s not sure about that stat because he hasn’t focused on it and doesn’t really forsee “being around that long”.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard on AM 1450 KVML each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
