The Tourists Are Coming

This Memorial day weekend, Tuolumne County may see the highest number of tourists- to-date for 2010.

Nancy Sikes, Executive Director for the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau, was Friday’s KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

According to Sikes, the recent wet and cold weather probably will not affect this weekend’s tourism in Tuolumne County as much as one might assume.

Sikes said that the projected number of both international and in-state visitors remains on par with last year at this time. Hotel bookings in south Tuolumne County are nearly filled to capacity. Other hotels throughout the County are rapidly filling up with last minute bookings, according to Sikes latest report.

Although the amount of Sierra Nevada campers will likely be down, due to new mountain snow and highways 108 and 120 remaining closed, Sikes says that the warm weather will bring out plenty of daytime lake and reservoir recreationists.

The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
