Memorial Weekend Safety

Sponsored by:

Temperatures this weekend will finally warm into the low to mid 80s. The combination of the Holiday weekend and warmer temperatures will entice more people outside to particpate in water activities.

Recreationalists on area rivers, streams and reservoirs should take great care in and near the water, as water temperatures are cold.

Remember the water is being fed directly from the melting snow. Water temperatures generally range from the mid 40s to the low 50s.

Anyone caught unprepared in cold, swift moving water can catch hypothermia. Hypothermia is a sudden loss of body temperature that can be fatal. Please monitor children closely as hypothermia can occur faster in children than adults. Children twelve and under are required to wear life preservers in and near waterways.
