Maintaining Calaveras County Parks

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA – Calaveras County leaders are considering whether to create an independent Parks District.

CAO Jeanne Boyce says the issue was discussed at a recent workshop in which the Supervisors went over the Parks and Recreation Commission’s Master Plan for the future.

The proposal would allow the county to properly maintain its parks during tough budget times, and not rely as heavily on organizations and volunteers to step up and provide proper upkeep.

The County would ask voters to approve a parcel tax to create the district and fund park construction and maintenance. It would likely cost around $3 a month per family.

Currently there are no immediate plans to move forward, but a majority of the board indicated support for the idea during the workshop.
