Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The CHP is looking for the suspect or suspects responsible for tossing large rocks into traffic along Hwy 108 near the Yosemite Junction Sunday evening.

At least two rocks, one measuring seven inches long by three inches wide, were launched into oncoming traffic at around 9:15pm.

One rock hit a GMC Yukon driven by Donna Modrell of Sonora. The rock went through the windshield and Modrell suffered major injuries. She was air-lifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.

A second rock hit a Mitsubishi driven by Stacey Knight. The car was damaged, but Knight was not injured.

CHP Officer Mike Remmel says it is not known if the rocks were thrown from a passing vehicle or from the shoulder area of the highway.

Contact the Highway Patrol at (209) 984-3944 if you have any information.
