Prom Draws Some Complaints

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — This past weekend’s Sonora High prom has been the source of criticism from some students of the district’s alternative education schools.

Unlike past year’s, students at Cassina High School and Ted Bird High School were not allowed to attend unless they were a guest of a Sonora High student.

Principal Todd Deardon says, "What we want to do is support those students that are working hard for a Sonora High School diploma and reward them with Sonora High School prom."

Cassina High student Kindra Johnson says many alternative education students were disappointed to hear the news. She says her classmates were notified of the change in the final weeks leading up to the prom, and many had already made appointments and purchased items in anticipation.

The prom was held Saturday evening at the Lazy Z Ranch.
