Building Can Be Demolished

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – The Sonora Planning Commission has granted permission for the building just north of the former Bombay Restaurant to be demolished.

The building is owned by Julie Saari, and was damaged when the Bombay Restaurant caught fire on December 15.

“Overall, the Planning Commission felt that it was an appropriate move to go ahead and demolish the building,” says Ed Wyllie, Community Development Director. “We’ll be working with her now on the issuance of a demolition permit.”

There are some stipulations, including that a board fence must be constructed along the Washington Street frontage. Before the fire, the building housed multiple businesses including the Koto Restaurant. The physical location is 289, 291 and 293 S. Washington St.

As for the neighboring Bombay Restaurant, Wyllie says the owners have not contacted the city yet about their plans for the fire damaged structure.
