Groveland, CA — Outdoor enthusiasts are embarking on a 241 mile journey to raise awareness about the Tuolumne River.

The Tuolumne River Trust’s second annual “Paddle to the Sea” started this weekend.

Kayakers and rafters began in Groveland along the Tuolumne River, will travel through the central valley, passing the confluence of the Tuolumne and San Joaquin Rivers, and finishing in San Francisco on June 5th.

Among those making a majority or all of the trip are Brian Coggan, Andrew Cushman and Owen Segerstrom. Coggan paddled the Mississippi River from the source to the sea last year. Segerstrom grew up in Sonora hiking and boating throughout the watershed, and Cushman grew up in the Bay Area and has been rafting the California watershed sine he was a kid.

The Tuolumne River Trust says it is using the event to promote water conservation, raise awareness about salmon and teach stewardship.
