And The Scam Continues

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — It all started in October of 2009 and it continues to this day.

“It” being a scam on some Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) customers.

A number of customers have received what appears to be an automated phone call telling them that their account is overdue and directing them to call a specific phone number and provide their credit card number for payment.

CCWD Finance Director Jeffrey Meyer confirms that CCWD does not engage in automated call collections. Communications relating to amounts owed including water and sewer service bills and later reminder notices are mailed to customers.

Anyone receiving such a call requesting immediate payment of a water bill by credit card should note the time and date and any phone number. If the customer’s phone is set to show incoming call numbers, report it immediately to the Sheriff’s Office at 754-6500.
