Sonora Resident Electrocuted

Sponsored by:

Oakdale, CA — A Sonora resident was electrocuted prior to the start of a bicycle race Sunday morning at approximately 7:19.

According to the Modesto Bee 20 year old Jeremy Regalado of was electrocuted while he was attempting to rig a 30 foot relay antenna near the starting line of a race involving 250 cyclists. The incident occurred approximately two miles south of Oakdale on Warnerville Rd. about a fifth of a mile east of Emery Rd.

A spokesman for the Oakdale Fire Protection District (Captain Mike Tobin) said the antenna apparently was blown into a power line by a gust of wind. Tobin added, "When we got there they were already doing CPR on the patient so the odds were in his favor but the injuries were too much for him."

The race consisted of four loops around the 17 mile course. The start of the race was delayed an hour once the death was reported.

Soulsbyville based Velo Promo serves as the event coordinator for approximately 40 bike races a year.
