Calaveras Plans To Layoff Teachers

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — The Board of Trustees of the Calaveras Unified School District is scheduled to make some difficult decisions tonight on how to close a $2 million deficit.

District Superintendent Mark Campbell says, "We’re looking at the possible layoff of over 23 teachers, discussing the elimination of elementary sports programs, 9th grade sports programs and elementary classroom music."

The 23 teaching positions account for more than 13 percent of the district’s entire teaching staff.

The meeting will begin at 6pm in the District Board Room at 2204 Hwy 12 in San Andreas.
