Russell Calls It A Career

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County is officially in the market for a new Recreation Director.

Mike Russell is currently on a leave of absence and will remain in that capacity until he retires in June.

In a letter to the Board of Supervisors, "The primary reason for this decision is to spend more time with my family. For 25 years it has been my honor to serve Tuolumne County and work for you (CAO Craig Pedro) and the County Board of Supervisors. I know that your administration along with the Board of Supervisors will continue to recognize the importance of recreation and do whatever is necessary to ensure the health and well being of our youth and families. Thank you for all your support and understanding over the years."

From Craig Pedro, "He is totally dedicated to the profession of recreation and to the youth of our community. He has done an exemplary job. It’s a tough thing to have to hear and announce. At the same time we all wish him the very best in his future endeavors."

Pedro announced that Deputy CAO Daniel Richardson will oversee the Recreation Department prior to the naming of a successor to Russell.
