Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — A Valley Springs resident was arrested shortly after Friday midnight and charged with driving-under-the influence along with hit-and-run.

60 year old Melvin Nicholson was driving his 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 northbound on Milton Rd. north of Hunt Rd. in rainy weather when due to his intoxication, he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. He subsequently lost control of the vehicle which struck a guard rail and overturned on its top coming to rest on the guardrail. According to the C.H.P. report one witness described Nicholson as being “drunk as a skunk.”

Nicholson was then arrested by the C.H.P. and booked into the County Jail.

Nicholson’s vehicle caused damage to approximately 40 feet of guard rail. six feet of fence, three guard rail posts and a paddle marker. The Dodge Ram was totaled.
