Sonora Resident Dies In Crash
Bakersfield, CA — A 65-year-old Sonora man was fatally injured in a car accident near Bakersfield.
The CHP says the unidentified man was driving a 2003 Honda Element north on Hwy 99 at 4:55am this morning when he veered to the right across traffic lanes, went through a perimeter fence, up a canal bank and into nearby Beardsley Canal.
It is not known what caused the Sonora man to lose control of the vehicle as the investigation is ongoing. No one else was in the Honda.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Team and the Kern County Fire Department assisted with the extrication of the vehicle from the canal. The victim was pronounced dead on scene by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
