“Wagon Trail” Realignment
Copperopolis, CA — Planning continues for the realignment of the section of Hwy 4 known as the "wagon trail," between Copperopolis and Angels Camp.
Recently a community meeting was hosted by the Calaveras Council of Governments in Copperopolis where residents had a chance to give input on the project.
"The overall concerns were to try and keep the speeds down and to utilize the existing alignment as much as possible," says Tim McSorley, Director of C.C.O.G. "We have written a letter to Caltrans asking them to consider a reduction in the design speed, which would allow us to take better advantage of the terrain, and avoid a number of cultural and biological resources that are out there."
The project will cover approximately 4.5 miles of Hwy 4 that features severe curves and no shoulders. The project is still 10-15 years away and will cost an estimated $40 million.
