Restored Locomotive Set To Return
Restored Sierra Railway steam locomotive No. 3 is set to return back to the rails on the 4th of July.
Kim Baker, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park Superintendent, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The 4th of July weekend has been chosen by Railtown 1897, as a four day extended weekend, to party and celebrate the return of the “movie star” locomotive No. 3.
Meanwhile, once-a-month behind the scenes tours are being given to showcase the progress being made on the final phase of the restoration. Today’s tour is sold out. The next tour dates will be March 17th and April 17th.
One potential future dark date that Park officials are keeping their eyes on, will be what happens with this year’s state budget. Last year, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger threatened to close nearly every California State Park including Railtown 1897. The current budget that thwarted the potential closures of the Parks is due to expire at the end of June.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
