Columbia Weapons Arrest

Columbia, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man at home in the 22000 block of Kay Court in Columbia.

Sgt. Jeff Wilson says a convicted felon in possession of firearms allegedly locked his wife outside their home following a dispute, but there was more to the story.

“Sheriff’s dispatch received a call from a woman who stated that her husband, 40-year-old Daniel Rico of Columbia, had left earlier in the day, possibly with a gun, to kill someone in the Bay Area,” says Sgt. Jeff Wilson. “He returned home, and locked her out of the house, keeping their four children inside with him. Deputies then arrived and surrounded the area, eventually convincing Rico to come outside.”

Sgt. Wilson says the statement about trying to kill someone in the Bay Area appears to be false. However, Rico faces charges related to being a convicted felon in possession of various guns. He was booked into Tuolumne County Jail.

The arrest was made at around 3pm on Wednesday.
