Sponsored by:

Calaveras County authorities now know the identity of a driver who was involved in an accident yesterday on Highway 49.

The CHP says 27-year-old Bo Smith and 24-year-old Robert Juul, both from Manteca, were traveling in the 2003 Chevy Trailblazer near the Highway 12 intersection. At around 1:20am, the SUV hit a guardrail and overturned.

When CHP officers arrived, the two men were walking away from the accident scene. Smith and Juul also told officers that the other person was driving. They were arrested for being intoxicated in public.

Since yesterday, a CHP investigation using physical evidence, has been able to determine that Smith was the driver of the SUV involved in the collision.

In addition to felony driving under the influence charges, Smith may now be facing additional criminal charges of obstructing a police officer, providing false information to a police officer and fleeing the scene of an injury traffic accident.
