Walking Dead In Sonora

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– Traffic was slow through Sonora most of the day, first for Occupy Sonora then because of Zombies. 40 protesters were still lined up at Courthouse Park along North Washington chanting “End corporate greed!” with many other signs at 2:30pm. A few zombies were having make-up applied and beginning to collect at the park at that time as well. By 4:30pm there was a full park of zombies dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.

The crowd numbered about 150, with about 60 percent dressed as zombies at 5:00pm when the second of three walks along Washington Street occurred. Food was collected for ATCAA and The Humane Society & Sonora Cat Rescue.

Awards for costumes were given according to whoever the audience cheered the most loudly for. The Best Character Costume went to a version of Ash from the Movie Evil dead, with a Beetle Juice a close second against an creative Alice in Wonderland Queen of Hearts zombie. Best Male Zombie was a “Steampunk Zombie” and Most Scary went to twin zombies that were actually a mother and daughter.

There were many entries for Most Creative Zombie but it went to a Woman who had been there all day. She was an Occupy Sonora protester who with her sign and a lot of zombie paint and make-up earned the Most Creative Zombie Costume.
