October Is Arts & Humanities Month

The month of October is National Arts and Humanities month.


B.Z. Smith, local arts aficionado, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.


According to Smith, the Central Sierra Arts Council asked the Sonora City Council to declare October “Arts and Humanities” month for the City of Sonora.


A few of this months highlights:


The ITSA film festival begins this evening and will continue on Saturday in both Groveland and Sonora. For more informaiton log onto http://www.itsafilmfestival.com


The Sonora Bach Festival will begin on Sunday October 2nd  at the Church of the 49ers and will run each week at various venues through Ocotober 23rd. Fore more information click http://www.sonorabach.org 


Saturday October 8th, six local world war two veterans will be sharing their stories during “Veterans History Night”, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Sonora High School Auditorium. The emcees for the evening are Chris Bateman & Paul Becker. This is a fund raiser for the Tuolumne Veterans History Project, to help capture as many stories of WWII as possible. Seats are $10. Smith is involved with the new Mother Lode Storytellers Guild which gathers at The Angels Camp Mercantile on the third Saturday of each month from 4pm to 6pm. The public is invited to swing by and join in. Come to listen, come to tell, come to get support and ask questions of veteran storytellers. 


Smith will be hosting a storytelling workshop on Saturday October 15th called, “Step Right Up”. Call (209) 532-7697 for more information.
