Jobless Rate Increases To 12 Percent

Sacramento, CA– The California unemployment rate rose again last month, hitting 12 percent.


That’s compared to 11.8 percent in June, according to the state Employment Development Department.


The latest numbers released Friday by the state EDD, also show locally that Tuolumne County’s rate decreased to 13.5 percent in July, compared to 13.8 percent in June. Calaveras County’s rate was up to 15.7 percent last month, as opposed to 15.4 percent in June.


California still has the second worst state unemployment rate in the nation, behind Nevada at 12.9 percent. The national rate in July dropped slightly to 9.1 percent.


The last time the jobless rate in California hit 12 percent was in March.
