San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Supervisors have approved a new budget for the fiscal year that starts Friday.
County Administrator Jeanne Boyce says the General Fund budget is $53 million, $20 million of which is related to the jail project. A total of 11 county workers will be laid off. The budget vote this week was 4-1, with Supervisor Steve Wilensky in opposition. Wilensky had proposed that the roughly 30 agencies in the county be restructured into five departments. The other Supervisors were not interested in taking up his idea at this time.
