California Homicide Rate Falls

Sacramento, CA — The California Attorney General’s Office reports that the state’s homicide rate dropped 9.6 percent last year, reaching its lowest level since 1966.


The number of violent crimes declined 6.4 percent, forcible rape declined 6 percent and robbery dropped 8.9 percent. However, the number of gang related homicides increased 18 percent. In a news release, Attorney General Kamala Harris credits the work of the state’s peace officers.
