The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra Nevada from 5.am. Friday through 5 a.m Saturday, which will also bring rain to the Motherlode.

Minor snow accumulation is expected at 2500 feet. Two to ten inches of snow is possible from 3000 through 4000 feet. Ten inches to three feet of snow is likely above 5000 through 7000 feet.

Winds of fifteen to thirty-five mph are also expected with gusts from fifty to seventy-five mph, along the crest.

Mostly rain is expected in the Motherlode during this time. Rivers and streams are already flowing at elevated levels and additional rainfall could lead to urban and small stream flooding as well as localized rock, dirt or mudslides.

Another storm will impact the area on Sunday.
