Population Grew Over Decade

Sonora, CA — Calaveras County’s population increased notably over the past decade, while Tuolumne County’s inched up only slightly.

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that Tuolumne County’s population in 2010 was 55,365, compared to 54,501 in 2000 (1.6% increase). Calaveras County’s population in 2010 was 45,578, as opposed to 40,554 in 2000 (12.3% increase).

The information will be used to redraw federal, state and local legislative districts.

Population was also up in neighboring Central Valley counties. Merced and San Joaquin Counties both saw the population grow by 21% over the past decade. California’s population grew by 10% to 37,253,956.
