Local Winery Wins Honor

Jamestown, CA– Gianelli Vineyards of Jamestown ranked high in a worldwide wine competition.

Gianelli’s 2008 Dolcetto was awarded a gold medal in a category at the 2011 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition of American wines in the world with more than 5,000 entries. Additionally, the Gianelli 2008 Sangiovese Super Tuscan took home a silver medal.

“We are thrilled about winning these awards at this prestigious wine competition,” said Lorie Gianelli, co-owner with husband, Ron. “We knew all along that our wines were good and could stand up to the best of them.”

Gianelli Vineyards Winery, located at 12581 Algerine Road in Jamestown, has 18 different Italian varietals grown on 28 acres. The 53-acre ranch has been in the Gianelli family since the late 1800’s when Giovani Rocca purchased the land after marrying into the Gianelli family.

The first vineyards were planted in 2003, and the winery plans to expand to 7,000 cases annually by 2015.
