Spellman Starts New Job

San Andreas, CA — Darren Spellman has officially stepped into his new role as District Five Calaveras County Supervisor.

Spellman was sworn into office last month and his first meeting was Tuesday. He says the first issue he would like to see addressed while in office is needed guardrail repairs to the O’Byrne’s Ferry Road Bridge that borders Tuolumne County. Spellman says he recently met with Public Works Director Tom Garcia about the matter.

Regarding Calaveras County’s economy, Spellman says, “If there’s anything the county can do to help the local economy, it would probably be to restructure some of the use-fees and permits that are given out through the building department. If some things were restructured, I think we could attract more business to Calaveras County.”

Spellman defeated incumbent Russ Thomas during last November’s General Election. Spellman’s campaign focused on cutting waste and reducing government spending.

“Having been the campaign trail since January of 2010, I feel that I have a pretty good idea about the concerns and interests of the people that live in District Five and I am excited to get to work to see what I can do to make those things happen,” adds Spellman.

District Five covers the region of Copperopolis and Rancho Calaveras.
