Bar Fight Ends in Gunfire

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Officials report a political discussion sparked a physical fight outside the Rosetti’s Bar around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning in Wallace.

They say 30 year old Michael Hatterle of Wallace and bartender, 40 year old Gregory Stanley of Valley Springs got into an argument. The two started fighting outside in the parking lot and Hatterle was knocked to the ground. Deputies report when Hatterle stood up Stanley was holding a handgun. They say Hatterle then saw the gun muzzle flash and felt warm air rush by his side.

Sheriff’s officials say during the fight Stanley’s girlfriend 33 year old Lorna Greenroot of Burson threatened to hit Hatterle with a pipe she was holding if he didn’t leave the bar. Deputies report Hartterle left the bar and the two suspects fled. They say Hatterle suffered a minor injury to his arm during this incident.

Sgt. Chris Hewitt says “Hatterle was not struck by a bullet. Detectives believe it was a ricochet from the bullet striking the ground that possibly struck the victim in the arm causing a minor laceration.”

Sheriff’s Detectives did find one cartridge from a 9mm handgun at the scene.

On Monday afternoon Stanley and Greenroot were arrested after a traffic stop on Highway 12. Sheriff’s Officials say during the stop detectives found a loaded 9mm handgun concealed inside a pocket of Stanley’s trousers.

Stanley was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder and Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public. Greenroot was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Threats.
