Big Events Expect Big Crowds

A few major events in the Mother Lode can expect big crowds. The annual Concours d’ Elegance at Ironstone Amphitheater starts at 10am. Over 300 classic cars will be on display and proceeds benefit Central and Northern California FFA and 4-H activities. The Tuolumne County Womens Network is hosting a “Speakeasy Soiree” on Saturday starting at 5pm at the Sonora Elks Lodge. This first ever community event will offer dinner and drinks, music and a 20’s themed evening of activities. Money raised will benefit the TCWN Scholarship Fund to help to local women re-enter the work force. Details and ticket information are in the event listing here.

The Sierra Apple Festival will be at the Mother Lode fairgrounds, gates open at 10am. The event is free, other activities and food purchased will benefit people with disabilities living independent lives. Activities include a clown, crafts, music and food. For more details go here.

In Calaveras the 16th Annual Sierra AIDS Walk starts Saturday at 9am. Held at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, the Walk is a major fundraising event for Sierra HOPE. HOPE is a nonprofit organization that helps local residents and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties.

According to the event listing as of June 2011 there have been 179 diagnosed cases of HIV or AIDS and 80 deaths in the three rural Counties served by Sierra HOPE. In the fiscal year ending June 2012, there was a 22% increase in the number of people with HIV served in their case management program. Further event details are located here.

Over in Waterford there will be a “Rock N The Park Concert & Car Show” starting at noon on Saturday. The Waterford Lions Club & Waterford Arts & Culture Organization are sponsoring the event to benefit the Waterford Community. The event is free to the public, details are here
