The Final Fireman’s Fun Day In Angels Camp
After fifty years, the final Fireman’s Fun Day in Angels Camp will take place this Saturday at Utica Park.
Liz Brown, Event Chairperson, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The first Fun Day was held in 1963 as a fundraiser to help build the firehouse. The event has been an annual fundraiser ever since.
When asked why the event is going away, Brown said, “The interest in this event has waned over time. It’s sad but it is also the reality. We’ll have to come up with other methods of raising money in the future.”
Some of the original firemen from that very first year will attend and be honored during the opening cermonies beginning around 11:30am.
The rest of the day’s events (through 6pm) will include fire truck rides, frog jumping, horseshoes, other games, auction items and a barbecue dinner.
Tickets are required to attend and are available in advance or at the event.
For more information call Brown at (209) 736-2493.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am on AM 1450 KVML.
