Tuolumne County Water Woes Discussed

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors agrees water insurance is needed.

Tuesday the Board and the Tuolumne Utilities District met to discuss the county’s water woes. It was designed to get T.U.D. and the Board of Supervisors on the same page when it comes to water needs in the region. A top priority was the Pinecrest Lake levels, as well as, water supply and water rights. Board

Supervisor Randy Hanvelt calls for a plan of action saying “We have a water crisis and whether we want to admit it or not and these dry years were at mercy. It’s only going to get worse because of the demands on the water by external forces.” He adds “I think we need to move forward with a plan, that doesn’t mean we implement it, but we need a plan so that we know exactly what we need to do and when to do it. We need to start soliciting support for that type of plan.” Hanvelt says “We need water supply insurance. There will never be an end to the need for water.”

The Board directed its staff to work with TUD to come up with proposals for a county plan and report them back to the board in a timely fashion.
