Accident Sparks Fire

Sponsored by:

There is a traffic accident near the community of Tuolumne, and it has caused a small roadside vegetation fire.

The accident is in the 18000 block of Yosemite Road near the intersection of Saddle Drive. Air resources from CAL Fire are among those responding to the incident. Some power lines have been knocked down in the area, resulting in many nearby PG&E customers going without power.

Yosemite Road is completely closed at this time due to the downed power lines. Motorists will need to find an alternate route. There are no immediate reports of any homes or structures in danger.

Updated at 11:15am: The fire is contained. It is unknown when Yosemite Road will be back open. There is no word yet on whether there were any injuries.

A special thanks to community member Connie Corcoran for taking this picture from the scene.

Update: 5pm: CHP says PG & E has been on the scene several hours trying to repair the lines. The Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency now says Yosemite will remain closed until 9pm Tuesday night. They say road closure signs are being posted at Woodhams Carne Road and Yosemite Road.
