High Speed Chase

Burson, CA — The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who led deputies on a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies recently pulled over 27-year-old Justin Ervin Petersen of Wilseyville in the early morning hours on Highway 12 in Burson. As deputies walked up to Petersen’s stolen pickup truck, he stepped on the gas and drove away.

Petersen reached speeds of over 100 mph during a chase, and it eventually came to an end on Quail Oaks Road in Valley Springs.

Petersen jumped out of the moving truck, and the stolen vehicle slammed into a patrol car, knocking one of the deputies to the ground. The deputy reported minor injuries, but was able to resume his duties.

Petersen was able to escape initially, but deputies were able to identify him because he left his cell phone inside the stolen truck. He was later tracked down and arrested at his home in Wilseyville. He faces a list of criminal charges.
