Arrest In Murphys Grand Theft Case
Murphys, CA — An investigation in to stolen property, and a tip, lead Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies to arrest a Valliceto man in Murphys.
Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies have been investigating multiple reports of burglaries in the areas of Vallecito and Murphys. They received a report on Monday that Kyle Hicks, a 30 year old from Vallecito, was attempting to sell a stolen chainsaw valued at $500.
Hicks was found in the 2500 block of Sheep Ranch Road in Murphys. According to Calaveras County Sgt. Chris Hewitt, he illegally entered the unoccupied residence and had been squatting for several weeks. Hicks was in possession of a sawed off shotgun, ammunition, drug paraphernalia and 2 grams of methamphetamine.
At the time of the arrest detectives were unable to locate the homeowner. Hicks was arrested and transported to the Calaveras County jail on the charges of: grand theft, trespassing, felon in possession of ammunition and a firearm, burglary, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff’s detectives are awaiting additional evidence and information to see if Hicks is connected to the other burglaries in the area. The case is still under investigation.
