Calaveras Man Sentenced To Prison
San Andreas, CA — A Calaveras County man that opened fire on two Sheriff’s deputies has been sentenced to 28 years in state prison.
The sentencing of 55-year-old Richard Cooper was handed down Friday afternoon by Judge Douglas Mewhinney. Cooper pled guilty to assaulting a peace officer with a firearm, and admitted that he had a prior “strike” conviction. To read an article about Cooper’s arrest from January of 2011 click here.
Deputy District Attorney Dana Pfeil handled the case. DA Barbara Yook says, “I was very glad the deputies did not get hurt. I am very pleased with sentence.”
Cooper had entered his plea back on February 9th.
