Tuolumne County Races Draw New Candidates

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The list of candidates planning a run for office this June in Tuolumne County continues to grow.

Five candidates have now expressed an interest in running for Sonora City Council. All three incumbents are running for re-election, Bill Canning, Dave Sheppard and Ron Stearn. They will be challenged by Connie Williams and David Axelrod. Voters will be asked to select three, as they are not running for a specific seat. Candidates still have until March 9th to jump into the race.

The deadline to declare candidacy for the two Tuolumne County Superior Court Judge positions has passed. The first seat will be a faceoff between incumbent Eleanor Provost and challenger Gregory Oliver. The second seat will be a contest between incumbent Donald Segerstrom and Alex Aretakis.

The deadline to file papers for the three open Tuolumne County Supervisors seats is mid-March. It appears that District Four Supervisor John Gray will have competition for his South County seat, as 18-year-old Nolan Matter has taken out papers for a run.

Nothing has changed recently when it comes to the District One and Five seats. The candidates for District One, which includes the Sonora City limits, is Liz Bass, Sherri Brennan, Randy Cofer, Jim Garaventa and Jim Hildreth. The candidates that have expressed an interest in District Five, which covers Columbia and Jamestown, are Patricia Adams, Michael Macomber, Jim O’Neil, Karl Rodefer and Domenic Torchia.
